Location: Summit of Pikes Peak (14,115 feet)

Best Viewing: Anywhere in Colorado Springs with a view of Pikes Peak
Colorado Springs might have the most unique and oldest New Year’s Eve fireworks tradition in the state. For the last century, a group of mountaineers with the AdAmAn Club have hiked up Pikes Peak on New Year’s Eve to set off fireworks from the summit at midnight.
This remarkable tradition began in 1922 when founder Fred Barr and four companions climbed Pikes Peak to set off fireworks. Each year since, one new member is added to the club—hence the name “AdAmAn” (add a man). The display is visible for a host of surrounding towns — like Colorado Springs and Manitou Springs — to enjoy.
The 2025 climb holds special significance. Earlier this year, 25-year-old Luke Stark, a newer member of the club, was tragically killed in a car accident. So this year, his younger sister, Rachel Stark, is leading the hike of 31 people to the summit, along with their father, Lance Stark. This is the very first time that the AdAmAn Club has posthumously honored a person like this for this year’s hike.
You can follow the club’s climbing progress beginning December 30 on their Facebook page. Many Colorado Springs residents make it a tradition to watch the fireworks from their porches, yards, or from scenic viewpoints around the city. On a clear night, the display can be seen for hundreds of miles along the Front Range.

While winter operations are weather-dependent, the Pikes Peak Cog Railway offers magical winter journeys to the summit when conditions allow. The three-hour round trip showcases snow-covered landscapes and provides access to views from 14,115 feet. Hot beverages and warm blankets make the journey comfortable even in winter.
Winter trips depend heavily on weather conditions. Check the website for current operations and book advance tickets if available. The railway may operate to mid-mountain instead of the summit during severe weather.
